DAVID SIMS AT VILMA GOLD GALLERY.

DAVID SIMS

VILMA GOLD GALLERY
30TH JUNE 2014

David Sims presents an art installation at London's most favourite Art gallery. The projection was installed in a small constructed 'backroom' where the viewer was invited into a moody, intimate, atmosphere of an erotic nature.

Maybe there's a book on the way???

The fashion 'creme de la creme' arrived nearly on mass. Looking amazing!!!

Gwendoline Christie with an eye-catching metallic bag. Richard Sloan wore a fantastic combination of blocked colours and layering. Giles, who wore shorts to show-off amazing legs, was in the latest fashion Black & White, while Jack Sunnucks
arrived in conceptual all Black with contrast trainers.
London fashion and art "IT" couple, Anthony Campbell and Sergio Colussi, as always present at all of the town's cultural events.

Also Martin Rasmussen with Anthony lit by Sergio's fluorescent torches.

In the main exhibition room a series of empty plinths were counterpoised by one where an Art Print  was available as a gift to the viewers.
Alex Hidalgo and Dr Noki were much later overheard competing about who had the first signed copy, had framed the poster and given it a place of honour in their home. This did not at all come near the fervour of those who took more than one print and have now archived then for later bragging!!!

Great to see Judy Blame looking fantastic and also Dr Noki here in traditional street-art pose.

My great pleasure always to see Anita Borzyszkowska. Beautifully dressed as is her mark.

A structure resembling a shell and echoing the stones placed below it. The architect states it "continues the history of small romantic constructions seen in parks .... follies ...".

RETURN OF THE RUDEBOY - SOMERSET HOUSE

RETURN OF THE RUDEBOY

SOMERSET HOUSE - LONDON

13 JUN - 25 AUG 2014

From Desmond Dekker ('007' - 1967) to The Specials ("Rudie" - 1979, lyrics above) the image of the "rudeboy" has been ever present within the cultural baggage of Britain.

With the symbolic arrival of the MV Empire Windrush we inherited an image of elegance brought over by immigrants to Britain with an expanded, cross over, elegance which originated with the 18th century 'dandy' and Savile Row.

The exhibition is curated and staged by Dean Chalkley and Harris Elliott.
Their usage of suitcases to house photographic images immediately brings to mind this journey of elegance.

A visitor to the exhibition.

This is a most welcome exhibition. At a historical moment when once again across Europe argumentation for and against immigration is being debated, this exhibition reminds us of the complex cultural involvement that calls immigrants forward and the value, diversity and richness their presence has afforded European culture.
