SOU FUJIMOTO
SERPENTINE GALLERY PAVILION 2013
LONDON
THE ARCHITECT WAS INSPIRED TO CONSTRUCT A LOCATION WHERE A GEOMETRICAL DEVISE CREATES A LINK BETWEEN HYDE PARK AND THE VISITOR. WHERE LANDSCAPE AND HUMANITY ARE ENGAGED.
THE PAVILION IS CONSTRUCTED FROM A BASIC REPEATED CUBE SHAPED TO THE HUMAN BODY. THE PLAYS BETWEEN SUBSTANCE AND EMPTINESS, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR, ARE INTENDED TO CONFUSE OUR RELATIONSHIP TO THOSE BOUNDARIES.
ALTHOUGH MINIMAL AND CONCEPTUAL, THE GENERAL EFFECT IS ONE OF SOFTNESS AND AMBIGUITY. WHAT WE ARE PRESENTED WITH IS A SURPRISINGLY ELEGANT AND SUBTLE STRUCTURE, INVITING AND EASILY EXPLORED.
